With fresh snow cover on the ground a great deal of Monday's sunshine was reflected right back out to space. The reflected sunshine did not add any energy to the system. This morning the snow acts to insulate the air from ground heat. There is a great deal of air between the flakes and just like a down jacket or the air trapped within polyester pile jackets the air between snowflakes insulates the atmosphere from heat in the ground. Cold weather continues into Friday then Friday night and Saturday look for snow and a wintry mix.
