2-year-old dies after weekend crash

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A 2-year-old hit by a vehicle on the Hopple Street overpass this past weekend has died.

Dameon Turner Jr., his father and another woman were on the sidewalk and heading east when 31-year-old Satwinder Singh went crossed the center line, hit the curb and struck the 2-year-old and his dad, Dameon Turner Sr., according to police.

Police say a good Samaritan stopped and took the family to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

The 2-year-old was listed in critical condition all Sunday. His family said he died Monday afternoon.

Now, the boy’s family is calling on police to give the suspect in this accident a harsh sentence.

“I don’t think he deserves to walk the streets again," said Dameon Turner, Sr. "You killed a baby that was loved by everyone.”

Singh was detained in a BP parking lot nearby.

“He has been detained at this point. So, we are talking with him," Sgt. Mike Hudepohl said.

Singh sustained minor injuries. He’s being treated at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, and leaving the scene.

Police said impairment is a factor in the crash.
