CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A search has been suspended for a missing hiker from the Tri-State.
Rescuers are saying they have been unable to find Harold “Joe” Smallwood. He’s been missing for seven days.
There are conflicting reports on whether he is from Miamisburg or Springboro.
The 82-year-old went hiking in the rugged terrain in the Santa Rita Mountains near Tucson. Search and rescue teams have been all over trying to find him. The search came to an end late Tuesday. Unfortunately, the sheriff says Smallwood is presumed dead.
The 82-year-old called 911 to report he was lost on Feb. 5. The Associated Press reports more than 100 searchers from multiple agencies participated in the effort to find Smallwood. According to the AP, during the stretch Smallwood was missing, there was snowfall in the mountains and temperatures dropped as low as 17 degrees.
