CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - You’ll notice a difference when you walk into Great American Ball Park this season.
You’ll notice a difference in the uniforms -- the 15 throwbacks the team will sport beginning May 4.
“I’m very excited about it,” said former Reds MVP Joey Votto. “How could you not be proud of playing for the longest (standing) professional baseball franchise?”
What you might not notice, unless you are one of the fanatics, is that the Reds are painting a picture with this throwback feeling that the old can deliver something new -- winning.
“Expect to win and go out there and win," said Reds new starting pitcher Sonny Gray. "That’s continually on our minds is winning and that’s all that matters and that’s what we’re going to do.”
“We have a really deep team and a good lineup," said Reds starting outfielder Jesse Winker. “We’re coming and it’s going to be a lot of fun to be a part of. It’s going to be fun for everybody in the whole city.”
It’s almost out of the clear blue sky, this feeling that the Reds have hope again in 2019. Maybe it’s the magic of 150. Maybe it’s the just the Reds’ time.
“I feel very strongly and I think as a group we feel very strongly we have a chance to win the division and be competitive this year," said Votto.
