BOONE COUNTY, KY (FOX19) - The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash Sunday night.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after deputies said they responded to Burlington Pike near Botts Lane about 9:30 p.m.

He was identified Monday morning as Donald W. Attebery, 48, of Petersburg, KY.

A preliminary investigation determined a 2000 Jeep Cherokee traveling westbound on Burlington Pike appeared to run off the right side of the road into an embankment, which caused the vehicle to overturn, according to the sheriff's office.

Attebery was found partially ejected.

Speed and wet roads are suspected contributing factors in the crash, sheriff’s officials said Monday.

Drugs or alcohol impairment is unknown pending toxicology reports, they said.

Attebery was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the sheriff’s office.

The road was shut down for several hours during the investigation.

It reopened just after 1 a.m. Monday.
