CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Xavier University introduced Melanie Moore as the new head women’s basketball coach on Tuesday.
Moore met with her new team before her introductory press conference at Cintas Center. She told them the program will be about three things: family, integrity and competitive greatness.
Moore is coming from the University of Michigan where she was hired as an assistant coach in 2012. This past year, she helped lead the Wolverines to a 22-12 season and a trip to the second round in the NCAA Tournament.
Before her time at Michigan, Moore spent five years at Princeton as the assistant coach for the Tigers. During those five years, she helped coached the team to three conference titles and three NCAA tournament appearances.
Xavier will start the 2019-2020 season as a rebuilding year, something Moore is familiar with. She was an integral part of the rebuilding process two different times at two different programs.
Calling it a “dream job,” Moore hopes to transform the Musketeers mentality to winning. Xavier’s women’s team last made the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
