CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - An Indiana mother has entered a plea after her 3-year-old son died.
Robyn Johnson entered a plea to a count of neglect of a dependent.
The child is said to have been born with an intestinal issue that required several surgeries at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Police said Johnson had taken her son home to Vevay after a surgery on June 14, but a tube popped out two days later.
Court records say she went back to Children’s to have the issue corrected and doctors discovered signs of a blood infection and the boy was badly dehydrated. They wanted to admit him to the ICU but Johnson declined the treatment for her son and left the hospital.
After signing an “Against Medical Advice” release form to head back to Indiana to care for her other children, three different doctors from Cincinnati Children’s either spoke to Johnson in-person or on the phone and asked her to bring her son back for treatment.
According to an affidavit submitted by Indiana State Police, it took one doctor threatening to call the police on Johnson for her to agree to return but the next morning her son had a cardiac event and later died.
She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 17.
