CINCINNATI, Ohio (FOX19) - Ronald Reagan Cross County Highway, or State Route 126, was closed in both directions after a crash Tuesday evening.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. in the westbound lanes, but the highway was completely closed between Hamilton Avenue and Winton Road. Four vehicles were involved.
Those who called 911 after the crash told dispatchers they witnessed a driver crossing a median and hitting a car head-on, causing a chain reaction.
According to police, a 2016 Ford driven by 36-year-old Shannon Powers of Bethel, Ohio, was traveling eastbound when he allowed his vehicle to travel off the left side of the roadway and crossed the median.
Police said Powers’ vehicle then entered into westbound lanes where it struck a Volkswagen driven by 61-year-old Joseph Gargano head-on. Powers’ vehicle continued out of control and was struck by a Toyota driven by Alex Hunter, 32. Hunter’s vehicle was re-directed to the right and was then struck by a Cadillac driven by 54-year-old William Key.
Powers was flown to University Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Gargano was transported to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Hunter and Key were transported to University Hospital. Both were treated and released.
Lenaya Sharp, 20, a passenger in Hunter’s vehicle was transported to University Hospital where she was treated and released. And infant passenger in the car was evaluated and released.
Police said Powers was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but all other drivers and passengers were properly restrained.
The highway reopened around 9 p.m.
Speed was not a factor in the crash, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation.
