CLIFTON, Ohio (FOX19) - A teacher killed in a wrong-way crash is being honored by the school she taught at Tuesday.
Taft Elementary school teacher Karen Thompson’s students are keeping her memory alive by unveiling a bench outside the school library in her honor.
She was traveling southbound on I-75 in vehicle with her husband, Timmy Thompson, and their 10-year-old daughter, Tessa, when a driver crossed over from the northbound lanes and crashed into them.
The wrong-way driver was identified as 21-year-old Abby Michaels who officials say was drunk at the time.
Moraine police recently announced Michaels was over the legal limit for alcohol at the time of the crash.
She has not been charged, however, while the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office takes the case now that the police investigation has wrapped up.
“We are reviewing the investigation report we received from Moraine. I’m told it is pretty voluminous, so it might be a couple of weeks before we can make any charging decisions,” said Greg Flannagan, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.
