CINCINNATI, Ohio (FOX19) - “Sam” the bald eagle will return to Nippert stadium on Saturday for the FC Cincinnati game and his first stadium flyover of the summer.

The rescued bald eagle calls the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden home, but Sam has been flying over Great American Ballpark during the National Anthem since 2003 and began appearing at some FC Cincinnati games last year, Cincinnati Zoo Director, Thane Maynard said.

“Cincinnati is one of the only places in the world where sports fans can see anything like this,” Maynard said.

Cincinnati Sports fans can see Sam at the following games:

Saturday, May 25: FC vs. New York

Friday, May 31: Reds vs. Nationals

Friday, June 14: Reds vs. Rangers

Tuesday, June 18: Reds vs. Astros

Saturday, June 22: FC vs. L.A.

Friday, June 28: Reds vs. Cubs

Wednesday, July 3: Reds vs. Brewers

Saturday, July 6: FC vs. Houston

The zoo is also hosting a “Zoo Night at the Reds” and a “Zoo Night at FC Cincinnati.” Fans can meet animals before the game at both zoo nights.

There are a few extra perks to attending either of the zoo nights, zoo officials say.

Fans who purchase a ticket to Zoo Night at the Reds on June 18 will receive a Sam the Bald Eagle bobble-head. The first 5,000 fans at the FC Cincinnati matches that feature Sam will walk away with a Sam the Bald Eagle trading card.
