FAIRFIELD, Ohio (FOX19) - Children ages 7 to 14 can “Fish With The Sheriff” this weekend in Butler County.

Sheriff Richard Jones and deputies will be on hand for the second annual event 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Fairfield Optimist Club, 194 Joe Nuxhall Way.

Bait, poles and tackle will be provided, and prizes will be awarded for the biggest catch.

Lunch also will be provided free of charge.

All children must be accompanied by a guardian.

“This is to get kids out away from their devices, get them together with the police, have some fun and interactions where we trust the police," Jones said in an appearance Tuesday on FOX19 NOW Morning News.

“We do want to humanize the badge. We don’t want kids to be afraid of the uniform,” added Sgt. Kim Peters, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.
