WEST END, Ohio (FOX19) - A 16-year-old died late Saturday night as a result of a shooting in the West End, said police.

It happened in the 700 block of Hopkins Street around 11:12 p.m.

The victim, Eric Shields, was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he later died.

Eric’s family remembers him as a kind-hearted and respectful young man who loved to play basketball and spend time with family and friends. He was beginning his junior year at DePaul Cristo Rey.

A relative told FOX19 NOW Eric was one of four children being raised by his grandmother after the murder of his mother in 2010.

Police are still investigating the case. Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide unit at 513-352-3542.
