SPRINGDALE, Ohio (FOX19) - A man was shot to death in Springdale Tuesday morning,
Officers said the man, 21-year-old Desmon Sayles, was shot in the chest at 1122 Chesterdale Drive.
Medics tried to revive Sayles, but he died from the injuries.
Police say three people of interest were seen fleeing the area and one has been detained by officers.
Investigators are interviewing any involved persons.
Many who were close to Sayles are wondering why he would be targeted.
“Desmon is a very loving giant. He is also the type of person that’s willing to go out of his way for you," his friend, Deshonte Grissom said.
According to police, several hours later, a large crowd gathered in the apartment complex and a large fight broke out. One arrest was made, but it was unrelated to the homicide.
Anita Beasley has lived at the Willows of Springdale for the past five years and she says that she’s concerned how easily people can get in and out of the buildings.
“I think they should have locks on these doors. That anybody shouldn’t just be able to come in. I think they should have locks," she said.
As the investigation continues, the Ohio State Patrol and Springdale Police are adding extra patrols in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Keenan Riordan at 513-346-5760.
