MENTOR, Ohio (WOIO) - Talk about an early Christmas present!
One lucky ticket sold in Mentor won the estimated $372 million Mega Millions jackpot Tuesday night, according to the Ohio Lottery.
The winning ticket hit on all six numbers – 22, 30, 53, 55, 56 and a Mega Ball of 16 – to win the grand prize.
Danielle Frizzi-Babb with the Ohio Lotter said, this is the biggest win in Ohio history. “It’s really a record breaker. [it’s] historic in that way so we’re really excited about it.”
The cash option is worth about $251.5 million. Or the winner can take the money paid out over 30 years.
The ticket was sold at the Giant Eagle on Tyler Boulevard.
Frizzi-Babb said, “it’s life changing. The Christmas side of it is really part of it. This person spent two dollars and it was an auto pick ticket. Today their life has totally changed."
The winner still hasn’t come forward.
For selling the winning ticket, the Giant Eagle received a $100,000 bonus. It’s the maximum amount a store can receive for selling a winning ticket.
“It’s been very exciting, very exciting for the Mentor community, as well as the store and some of our customers,” said Sheena Maravich, a store leader at the Mentor Giant Eagle.
The winner has 180 days to claim their winnings with their matching lottery ticket.
It’s the 20th time someone in Ohio has hit the Mega Millions jackpot since the Ohio Lottery began selling the tickets in 2002.
The winner has until June 14 to claim the prize.
