Man arrested in connection with death of traffic flagger in NKY, police say

Northern Kentucky traffic flagger killed, driver arrested

CAMPBELL COUNTY, Ky. (FOX19) - A man is under arrest in connection with a collision that led to the death of a traffic flagger on Alexandria Pike, police say.

According to the Highland Heights Police Department, Jeffrey R. Holbrook, 53, of Bethel, Ohio, died on Christmas Day at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Police say Holbrook was directing traffic around a construction zone on Dec. 23 when a Chevy Camaro, northbound on Alexandria Pike, U.S. 27, struck him and then a construction vehicle.

Nina Helderbrand, 38, of Batavia, was sitting in the construction vehicle.

She was treated for minor injuries at St. Elizabeth Hospital and released.

The driver of the Camaro has been identified by police as Karim Zein, 20, of Independence, Ky.

After Zein was released from the hospital and held at the Hamilton County Jail until being extradited to the Campbell County Detention Center on an initial charge of assault, according to a press release from police.

The crash is still under investigation.
