COLUMBUS, Ohio (FOX19) - Ohio State announced Tuesday that the university is postponing graduation.
“People are at the heart of Ohio State. Safety is our first priority - which is why we are postponing commencement,” the University posted in a Tweet.
OSU President Michael Drake says they are following the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendation that no large events be scheduled over the next eight weeks.
Drake says the preference is to reschedule graduation for later this spring, but it’s too early to choose a new date.
“Commencement is one of our most cherished traditions, and we remain fully committed to celebrating our graduates at an appropriate time,” Drake wrote in a statement posted to OSU’s website.
OSU has moved from in-person classes to virtual instruction for the rest of the spring semester.
