CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A two-legged dog from New Richmond, Ohio is the new Cadbury Easter Bunny.

Lieutenant Dan was born with a birth defect that led to him having his back legs amputated, but his adopted owners say he has a joy for life that’s infectious and inspiring.

Earlier this year, they put him in the running to be Cadbury’s next Easter Bunny, as the company recently opened its contest to all furry animals.

Soon Lieutenant Dan became a social media sensation, gracing the top page of Reddit and going viral on Twitter.

Voting closed March 18. He was announced as the winner Tuesday.

His owners took home $5,000 for the distinction.

Lieutenant Dan will now appear in a reboot of Cadbury’s classic Bunny Easter commercial.
