Zero new virus deaths reported Sunday in Kentucky, Beshear says

Gov. Beshear updates COVID-19 in Kentucky

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX19) - Gov. Andy Beshear had no virus deaths to report in Kentucky for Sunday and just 80 new confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Beshear also had Saturday’s data to report in his Sunday media briefing: 173 new cases for a total of 5,130 and five new deaths for a total of 253.

At least 1,892 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

The governor said Sunday’s lack of virus deaths could be attributed to reporting deadlines, adding he already knows of one death that will be reported Monday.

Nonetheless: “Even if just for one day, even if it’s just the official count, that feels pretty good to read,” Beshear said.

The governor described case growth in the commonwealth as having plateaued -- perhaps even beginning to decline -- reflecting work Kentuckians have done over the past two weeks to reduce the virus’s spread.

“You all have done such a great job,” he said. “We’ve seen something we have never seen in history when we look at these pandemics.”

Some 329 patients are currently hospitalized with the virus, and 170 patients are currently in intensive care, a figure that’s down from Friday.
