FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX19) - Gov. Andy Beshear reported 141 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky Friday, bringing the state’s total to 8,426 on 171,388 tests.
More than 5,000 new tests were reported Friday. The governor maintains tests are underreported.
Still, at just 4.9 percent Kentucky’s positive testing rate continues to outperform most U.S. states as well as the 10 percent benchmark health experts have said is necessary to properly contain the virus.
Some 477 Kentuckians are currently hospitalized, Beshear said, and 90 are in the ICU.
The governor reported five new deaths.
Also Friday, Kentucky issued new guidance for youth sports. Low-contact youth sports can resume June 15, and additional activities will be added June 29. Find out more here.
