BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (FOX19) - One person is dead in Middletown from a motorcycle crash that followed a high-speed police pursuit, Middletown police said Thursday afternoon.
The crash occurred around 1:54 p.m. in the 3700 block of Lefferson Road near Spring Grove Lane, police said.
According to Middletown Police Mjr. Walter Scott Reeve, the motorcycle was being pursued by a marked Middletown Division of Police car at the time of the crash.
The pursuit resulted after police received information that the driver of the motorcycle was involved in drug trafficking, Reeve explained.
The driver had been arrested and convicted on a charge of Methamphetamine possession after a similar complaint in 2018, then was released from prison in May 2020, according to Reeves.
Middletown police’s Special Operation Unit followed the driver and saw him make hand-to-hand transactions, Reeves said. They called for a marked police car to stop the driver so an arrest could take place, at which point the driver reportedly sped off, leading police on a chase.
The chase ended, Reeves explained, when the driver struck the rear of a tractor trailer on Lefferson Road.
Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
Anyone with information related to the crash is urged to contact Middletown Division of Police at 513.425.7700.
