Man charged in connection with fatal Clifton Heights shooting

1 dead, 2 injured in Clifton shooting, police say

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Police announced the arrest of a man Monday in connection with the fatal shooting of 27-year-old Damarcus Payton in the Clifton-University Heights-Fairview neighborhood early Sunday morning.

Payton died at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center as a result of the shooting, which police say occurred in the 100 block of W. McMillan Street around 1 a.m.

The Cincinnati Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested Barry Ellery in connection with Payton’s death Monday evening, according to a CPD release.

Ellery faces a felony charge of complicity to commit murder after he aided two other suspects in murdering Payton, according to court documents.

Around 12:58 p.m., the documents say, Ellery and the other suspects drove to 1444 W. McMillan St. to confront Payton and Payton’s girlfriend. A verbal altercation ensued, during which one of the other suspects took out a handgun and began shooting.

Two other victims were also transported to the hospital for treatment. No further information will be released on those victims, police say.

The other suspects have not been identified.
