Sheriff identifies victim in Adams County shooting

63-year-old man charged with murder following Adams County shooting

ADAMS COUNTY, Ohio (FOX19) - One man is dead and another is in custody following a shooting in Adams County, according to the sheriff.

The shooting happened sometime before 4 p.m. in an area off of 781 near Mount Unger Road in Wamsleyville.

Sheriff Kimmy Rogers identified the victim is 31-year-old Robert Bucher Jr.

Rogers says they haven’t determined the relationship between the man in custody and the victim.

Police have not released the suspect’s name.

The same day, Anthony Cancelliere, 63, of Otway, Ohio, was arersted by Ohio State Highway Patrol and booked into the Adams County Jail on murder charges.

A source in the Adam’s County Sheriff’s Office tells FOX19 NOW Cancelliere is the man charged in connection with the shooting.

Witness Rick Dearth says he was enjoying a quiet day before the shooting occurred.

“We heard a gunshot and then we heard some screaming,” he said.

Dearth says 15 minutes after the shot, a truck carrying his female neighbor in the back passed him coming down a nearby road. He says it looked as if she was cradling someone’s head.

The neighbor later told him her landlord had shot her fiancée.

“She was held at gunpoint from the landlord not to say nothin’ when they passed our house with him in the back of the truck,” Dearth explained.

He adds he’s always been wary of Cancelliere.

“That guy was just kinda off,” Dearth said. “You had to watch him and don’t approach him quick or nothin', because he did always pack a pistol with him.”

The investigation is ongoing.
