CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Enquirer) - An FC Cincinnati player has tested positive for COVID-19, club General Manager Gerard Nijkamp confirmed on Friday.
The player wasn’t identified by Nijkamp, according to our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The confirmation of the positive test comes on the eve of FC Cincinnati’s departure on Saturday to play New York City FC at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.
“It’s correct (that) we have a positive tested player in the roster at the moment,” Nijkamp wrote in a message. “We are following the protocol of MLS and our medical-responsible people in our club. And we will come with further information when we know more.”
The positive test is the first known positive test for FC Cincinnati, both during the period when Major League Soccer was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic and since play restarted at the MLS Is Back Tournament in the Orlando region, according to our media partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer.
