Springdale police: 13-year-old shot in parking lot of Tri-County Mall

SPRINGDALE, Ohio (FOX19) - A 15-year-old girl was shot in the parking lot outside BJs Restaurant Friday night, according to Springdale Police Chief Tom Wells.

The restaurant is connected to Tri-County Mall.

The girl was sitting in a vehicle with other young people when she was shot in the stomach, Wells says. She was transported to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

Police say the girl had non-life-threatening injuries.

Update: according to Springdale Police Chief Thomas Wells, a 13-year-old girl was shot while sitting in a vehicle. She was shot in the stomach and was transported to Children's Hospital, we're told. Chief Wells says he believes the teen was alert as she was being transported from the scene, but he is unclear on the extent of her injuries. The shooting happened in the mall parking lot near BJ's, in the back. No word yet on how many shots were fired. Chief Wells says it appears to be a random shooting as of right now, but police are investigating to try and figure that out. No concrete suspect information at this time. 1 person reported to have ran from the scene. Possibly three other people involved. The 13 year old was with "other young people" Chief Wells said. Previous: Heavy police presence outside of BJ’S which is connected to Tri-County Mall in Springdale. Working to try and confirm what happened, but I don’t have any information just yet. FOX19

Wells says he believes the girl was “awake and alert” but that he is unclear on her current condition.

Police received a report of a male suspect that ran from the scene, according to Wells. He says it’s possible as many as three other people were involved.

He adds the shooting appears to be random.

Springdale police are investigating.
