Fire destroys restaurant where Bengals fan slept on roof 57 days until team won

Hog Rock Cafe in Milan, Indiana catches fire overnight

MILAN, Ind. (FOX19) -A southeastern Indiana bar and restaurant burned to the ground overnight and is a total loss, fire officials say.

Flames broke out in the upstairs area at Hog Rock Cafe just before 11 p.m. Wednesday. It is located at East Carr Street at Main Street in Milan, Indiana.

The eatery drew headlines last year when its owner, Jeff Lanham, who also is an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan, slept in a tent on the roof for 57 nights until the team snapped a long losing streak and finally won a game.

When firefighters arrived late Wednesday, they said the building was fully engulfed and flames were shooting from the roof.

Hog Rock Cafe partially collapsed about 2 a.m.

No one was hurt, fire officials say.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Indiana state fire marshal officials are now on scene.

A damage estimate was not immediately available.

FOX19 NOW spoke to two restaurant servers, Katie and Alex Minch, who were at the scene.

“Seeing this fall down from the community, and outside the community, it’s really devastating,” Katie said, “because it’s really, like, the heart of Milan if you think about it in a way. It’s really been the heart of Milan, so it’s not just us and the owners are losing something, it’s the whole town losing something.”
