EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - One man was fatally shot by East Cleveland police officers after a chase with a stolen car Tuesday morning.
According to East Cleveland police, this began around 10:30 a.m. when officers started to go after a stolen vehicle.
Two men and one woman were inside the car, police said.
During the chase, officers said the driver struck several fixed objects and the vehicle began to catch fire.
The three occupants then bailed from the car on Allandale Road, officials said.
Th two passengers ran toward Euclid Avenue, while the vehicle driver fled behind houses and over a fence to the Apex Academy, according to police.
According to police, the man was armed with a gun and officers fired an unknown amount of shots toward him.
The man was struck an unknown amount of times.
EMS transported him to University Hospitals, where he was pronounced dead.
His name has not been released.
Ohio Attorney General’s Officer Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation will be taking the lead of this investigation.
