CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Issues with the second round of stimulus checks continue to pop up as some people are now learning they will not receive money this time around.
There is an important distinction to make though.
According to the IRS website, those who got money last time, but are now getting a message that says the stimulus is “not available” this time can still get the stimulus money. The issue is they will have to wait when many people need help now.
“To see my friends who have children, who are struggling, to just go through this it’s crazy,” Viktoria Dodds says.
Dodds is one of those who received the “not available” status for her stimulus money. She says she’s been able to maintain employment through the pandemic but knows many who are struggling financially that need that money.
“Just confused on why some are being deposited, and some people are getting checks, but then other of us guys have to wait until we file our income taxes,” says Dodds.
The IRS website says the speed at which they were legally required to issue checks may have sent payments to old, inactive, or unfamiliar accounts.
Their page says if you are due a check, “instead you need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2020 Tax Return.”
“A lot of people have to wait until they file their taxes, and you know, no telling when we’ll be able to do that or if they’ll be delayed with taxes and stuff,” Dodds says.
Gabrielle Donovan’s stimulus check is also “not available.” She says rent is going up, her family needs the money as they are forced to move into an RV next week.
“To an extent I’m frustrated, but I’m sad. We’re hurting. Americans are hurting. People in Cincinnati, Warren County, we’re hurting,” Donovan says.
If you have the “not available” status listed for your second stimulus check on the IRS website, they recommend you file your taxes electronically to get your stimulus money as quickly as possible.
