Police make plea for info in crash that critically injured 16-year-old
The girl remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to Norwood police.
NORWOOD, Ohio (FOX19) - Police are asking for the public’s help catching a suspect involved in a hit-skip on Monday.
The victim, a 16-year-old girl, suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a car at the intersection of Montgomery Road and Norwood Avenue around 5 p.m.
She was admitted into the ICU with a serious head injury. She remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition as of Friday, police say.
The girl was in a crosswalk and had the right of way when she was hit. The vehicle that hit her did not stop, according to police.
“We believe a black sedan, possibly a KIA, was involved,” NPD Sgt. Kimberly Brucker said at the scene.
Police say there would be damage on the front right corner.
Norwood police told FOX19 NOW Friday they’ve received many tips since the crash but have not been able to make an arrest yet. They add it’s a difficult situation because there’s little surveillance video near the busy intersection.
“They’re heartbroken,” Lt. Ron Murphy said of the girl’s family. “Here’s a 16-year-old girl who’s responsible enough to have a job, walking to work.”
Murphy says it’s an active investigation.
“We’re pretty confident we will solve it, but we just don’t know at this point,” he said.
“When somebody hit somebody in a vehicle, a pedestrian, and leaves the scene, it’s just hard to believe that it occurs, the lack of respect for another person.
If you have any information, you’re urged to contact the Norwood Police Department at 513.458.4520.
