2 teens arrested in Sycamore Township after leading deputies on chase in stolen vehicle
SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (FOX19) -Two teenagers were arrested after they led police on a chase in a stolen vehicle Saturday night in Sycamore Township, Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said.
McGuffey says a deputy in Sycamore Township was out on patrol when he saw the teens, 17 and 15 years old, running away from a Shell gas station located in the 8000 block of Montgomery Road. Both hopped into a black sedan took off.
The deputy thought they were involved in a robbery, so he followed the vehicle on I-71 North, McGuffey said.
McGuffey says that the deputy recognized the vehicle because it matched the description of a 2007 Toyota Corolla that was stolen earlier that night from a Speedway gas station located on Mason Montgomery Road in Symmes Township.
The deputy attempted to stop the driver, but the driver failed to comply. The chase reached speeds of nearly 100 mph.
McGuffey says it was not until they entered the Fields Ertel Road exit that the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the side of the roadway, coming to a rest in a ditch.
Both teens fled on foot and were arrested shortly after, McGuffey said.
No one was injured during the chase.
After further investigation, deputies determined that the teenagers were actually involved in the theft at the Shell gas station, McGuffey said.
The 17-year-old faces charges of failure to comply, theft of a motor vehicle, and obstructing official business. The 15-year-old faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle, theft, and obstructing official business.
Both are being held at the Hamilton County Juvenile Court Youth Center.
