CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The race for Cincinnati’s next mayor got a little smaller as one possible candidate is no longer in the running.

Cincinnati City Councilman Chris Seelbach announced his decision to not run for mayor on Wednesday.

“I never got into politics for a career,” Seelbach says. “The reason I was so drawn to David Crowley was because he ran for office at the end of his career. Not to eventually become Governor, Senator, or President, but because he truly wanted to serve on City Council to give back to a city that gave him so much.”

Seelbach explained how that belief “rings true for him.”

Seelbach says he looks forward to what is next for him but knows it won’t be in elected politics.

The councilman originally announced back in December that he was considering a run for mayor in 2021.

Still in the running for the 2021 race are Councilmember David Mann, City Councilmember Cecil Thomas, Hamilton County Clerk of Courts Aftab Pureval, Herman J. Najoli, Raffel Prophett, and Gavi Begtrup.
