WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio (FOX19) - A hydrochloric acid spill at a West Chester business led to a shelter in place order Monday morning, according to township officials.

Firefighters responded to a call for a burst chemical pipe at Ohio Aluminum LLC in the 4500 block of Muhlhauser Road around 11:15 a.m.

As a result, people living within a half-mile radius were advised to shelter in place.

Officials say crews were able to contain most of the spill but some of the chemicals did make it into a nearby creek, so the EPA will investigate.

The shelter in place order was lifted around 1 p.m.

Muhlhauser Road, between SR-747 and LeSaint Drive, will remain closed for about an hour as crews finish their clean-up.
