Raffle fundraiser raises $25K for NKY playground honoring slain 9-year-old boy
BURLINGTON, Ky. (FOX19) - More than $25,000 was raised through a raffle as part of a fundraiser for a northern Kentucky playground honoring a young murder victim.
Kelli Kramer and her son, Aiden, were fatally shot inside their Burlington apartment in 2018.
Monday would have been Aiden’s 13th birthday.
John and Marilyn Kramer, Kelli’s parents, sold raffle tickets to help benefit St. Timothy Church and Burlington Elementary playground.
“It was a little over $25,000, so we’re really happy with that amount,” said Marilyn. “It’s going to make a nice playground for both schools.”
The winner received $10,000.
John said there will be a permanent marker at the playground to commemorate their grandchild.
“Aiden deserved it, he was a good boy,” John said. “We’re doing this because he didn’t have a chance to make a name for himself. So, we did it for him and hopefully, we’ll keep that alive, keep his name out there, so it was a real successful raffle.”
Kelli’s former boyfriend, Joshua Ward, is charged with two counts of capital murder.
Marilyn said they are now looking forward to the start of Ward’s trial, which is in August.
