Middletown mother convicted of murder tells police what happened to her son
BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) - Video from the police interview of the Middletown mother who admitted to killing her 6-year-old son in February has been released.
Brittany Gosney, 29, was sentenced to the maximum of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 21 years for the murder of her son, James Hutchinson.
On Feb. 28, Gosney and her 42-year-old boyfriend, James Hamilton, walked into the Middletown Police Department to report Hutchinson as missing.
The Middletown mother was questioned by detectives over the course of three hours.
Through the first hour, Gosney denies any wrongdoing as she talks to Detective John Hoover.
The mother tells the detective she was woken up in the middle of the night by Hamilton saying the 6-year-old went missing from the home.
Hoover then leaves the interview room for about 25 minutes, comes back, and says he just talked with Hamilton in the other room.
Hoover tells Gosney that her boyfriend is putting all the blame on her, which changes her entire story of events.
Gosney says she took her three kids to a Preble County park to leave them because Hamilton was pressuring her to do so.
Hutchinson grabbed her van’s door handle as she started driving.
The 6-year-old was dragged as she drove off, Gosney confessed.
She turned the van around to go back about 30 to 40 minutes later, according to police. She says she returned to find Hutchinson had hit his head on the ground.
Gosney then took the three children back to their Middletown home.
As the interview went on, Gosney admitted to killing Hutchinson according to the sheriff’s report. She tells the detectives she and Hamilton went to the Ohio River where they dropped Hutchinson’s body.
The 6-year-old boy’s body still has not been found.
Hamilton pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping, endangering children, and gross abuse of a corpse.
He will be sentenced on Oct. 4.
Hamilton faces a maximum of 15 years in prison.
