Beds full, long wait times at Children’s Hospital
CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Children’s Hospital announced Friday that they are full and under a lot of stress due to the increased number of patients.
The hospital said in a Facebook post that their Emergency and Urgent Care departments are extremely busy, so, therefore, wait times are long.
“We know these wait times are inconvenient, and we assure you, our teams are working hard to see every patient who needs care as quickly as possible. Please do not hesitate to come if you need emergency care,” the hospital said.
They add that health providers may reach out to reschedule appointments or procedures.
Those unsure if their child needs to go to the ER or Urgent Care should call their primary care provider.
Children’s says they’ve been busy with COVID, the flu, RSV and other lesser-known viruses that have put a bit of a strain on their hospitals.
The Chief of Staff at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, Dr. Patty Manning, said they’ve had double-digit COVID cases for weeks and unfortunately things aren’t getting any better.
Those cases, combined with the other seasonal illnesses and the hospital’s regular workload of injuries, cancers, and transplants had stretched them a little thin.
While Dr. Manning says things have improved since the weekend, she added that they are preparing for whatever the Omicron variant brings in the next couple of weeks.
Like many hospitals, they’re working through staffing issues.
“Staffing across all of healthcare is strained, and we are not immune from that,” Dr. Manning explained. “Healthcare workers are exhausted as a result of the pandemic and have been at this for almost two years now. We need everyone’s help.”
