CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Cincinnati police arrested a man early Monday in connection with an attempted ATM theft.

Police said the attempted robbery happened at the Bank of America on E. Seymour Avenue in Roselawn.

According to police, Rahsaan Washington Jr. used a U-Haul truck and chain to try and pull an ATM out of the ground.

He was unable to remove the ATM and left the scene in the moving truck.

Lt. Ron Murphy at the Norwood Police Department said stealing an ATM is not very simple.

“They’re [ATMs] bolted to the floor, I believe is my understanding and things like that,” Lt. Murphey explained. “So, it takes a while to get them off the ground, and then they’re heavy.”

Washington Jr. was later found on Dale Road in Norwood and resisted arrest.

According to court documents, he swung at a Norwood police sergeant trying to injure him. Washington Jr. was tased and eventually taken into custody.

Washington Jr. was charged with obstructing justice, failure to comply, possessing criminal tools, safecracking, assault and vandalism.

Police said the ATM was unusable after the incident.
