LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - Ohio State Highway Patrol has identified the driver killed early Tuesday in the crash on Interstate 75.

James Barnett III, 43, of Sellersburg, Indiana, died at the scene of Tuesday’s crash after he was ejected from his 2022 Kenworth semi, according to OSHP.

The crash happened a little before 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75 between the exits for Liberty Way and Ohio 129 in Liberty Township, troopers said.

The investigation shows Faustin Muhire was driving a 2016 Freightliner in the left middle lane in front of Barnett.

Barnett’s semi was pulling a trailer loaded with aluminum coils, troopers said.

For some reason, troopers said Muhire slowed down which caused Barnett to swerve and hit the trailer in front of him.

Barnett’s semi overturned and went off the side of I-75 before it crashed into the concrete median. Liberty Township Fire and EMS pronounced Barnett dead at the scene, troopers said.

Troopers did not mention if Muhire sustained injuries in the crash.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Multiple lanes of traffic, both northbound and southbound I-75, have been closed since the crash.

Around 6 p.m., the Ohio Department of Transportation said all lanes of northbound and southbound I-75 were reopened.

The ramp from Liberty Way to I-75 North is now open, per ODOT.
