CINCINNATI (WXIX) - Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner is headed to the Big Apple.

The New York Jets drafted Gardner fourth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, making him the highest-ever drafted player out of the University of Cincinnati.

Late Bearcats Hall of Fame quarterback Greg Cook was drafted fifth overall in the 1969 draft.

Gardner did not allow a single touchdown reception in his three years at UC.

The Michigan native was a key piece of the Bearcats 13-1 team that made history this season when they became the first Group of Five team to play in the College Football Playoff.

Quarterbacks had a passer rating of 26.1 when targeting Gardner in 2021 – the lowest of any player in the nation, according to UC Athletic Communications.

Gardner was the second defensive back taken in the draft. The Houston Texans selected LSU’s Derek Stingley Jr. with the third overall pick.
