SWAT standoff ends in arrest after woman barricades herself in OTR apartment, police say
CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A SWAT standoff in Over-the-Rhine Monday night ended with the barricaded suspect under arrest, according to Cincinnati police.
Jennifer Giles, 36, is held on a felonious assault charge at the Hamilton County Justice Center.
She was booked in at about 9:40 p.m. Monday and is scheduled to make her first court appearance in the case at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Cincinnati police say Giles threatened to kill her male neighbor while holding a large kitchen knife in the 1300 block of Main Street at about 5:50 p.m., court records show.
Lt. Timothy Lanter tells FOX19 NOW it was a butcher knife.
The woman in her 30s “took a swing at her neighbor” but did not make contact,” Lt. Lanter said.
She then barricaded herself within her apartment and refused to come out.
A SWAT team responded, eventually entered the apartment and took the woman into custody without further incident, according to Lt. Lanter.
The motive remains under investigation.
