CINCINNATI (Enquirer) - An investigation into reports of an “amorous relationship” with a student-athlete led to the resignation of Miami University women’s basketball coach DeUnna Hendrix, the college reported Monday.

Hendrix resigned April 26 just six days after the university suspended her pending an investigation, according to our media partners at the Enquirer.

Athletic Director David Sayler learned about the allegations on April 19 and contacted university administration, the school’s media relations department said in a statement.

The University’s Title IX Coordinator determined Hendrix did not violate Title IX or the university’s sexual misconduct protocol, but the investigation did show “sufficient information” to fire her for violations of policy and breach of contract, the statement said.

“This investigation led to her resignation,” the statement said. “Had she not resigned, the university would have pursued the termination process.”

In reference to the policy Hendrix violated, the media relations department pointed to Miami’s “consensual amorous relationship” policy. The policy bars faculty from “pursuing or engaging in an amorous relationship with any Miami undergraduate students,” though exceptions can be requested.

The Athletic reported and published some of the text messages they say were from Hendrix. Miami has not released any details about the allegations.

“Much of the underlying information surrounding events remains confidential and protected student information,” the media relations department said.

Hendrix was hired at Miami in 2019. Her last yearly contract was for a salary of $227,247. This past season, she led the program to a 12-19 overall and 7-11 MAC record.
