Toddler killed after being run over by tractor in Clermont County: Sheriff
WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WXIX) - A death investigation is underway in Clermont County, where a 2-year-old boy was run over by a tractor and killed Tuesday night, Sheriff Steve Leahy confirms.
Dispatchers received a 911 call a little after 6 p.m. from a resident in the 2500 block of Misty Lane in Wayne Township that her little brother had been run over by a tractor, the sheriff’s office said in a news release early Wednesday.
Deputies responded at 6:23 p.m. and made contact with Wayne Township EMS/Fire personnel, who confirmed that a 2-year-old boy died from injuries suffered in an apparent tractor accident and was not able to be resuscitated.
Sheriff’s detectives responded to interview witnesses and to process the scene for evidence in the death case.
The Clermont County Coroner’s Office also responded and transported the toddler’s body to the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.
Wayne Township Trustee Teresa Hinners said the sad news will travel fast across the area.
“This is a small community,” explained Hinners. “A lot of us went to school together. Our parents sat on the bleachers together during sports events. We see each other at the fish fries.”
Hinners said it is going to take some time to fully process what happened to this little boy.
“It’s heartbreaking,” the trustee said. “Our heart goes out to the family and anyone involved in that because that’s got to affect neighbors and of course EMS responders as well that have to deal with that.”
Hinners is asking for volunteers in Wayne Township to get in touch with her or the fire department to form a group that will help and support the family of the 2-year-old.
