Local soldier dies in Mich. snowmobile accident

MADIERA, OH (FOX19) - A local man had died and his wife was injured in a snowmobile accident in Michigan.

Police say Daniel Barhorst, 25, of Madeira, died Friday afternoon after his sled failed to negotiate a curve and struck several trees. The accident happened in Columbus Township, Michigan, about 375 miles north of Detroit.

Barhorst had recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq, serving with the 37th Infantry Brigade of the Ohio Army National Guard.

His wife, Megan, is still in the hospital. She is an athletic trainer from Finneytown Local schools.

Visitation for Barhorst will be March 20 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home 333 W. High Street Piqua, Ohio 45356.

Services will be March 21 at 10 a.m. at Holy Angles Catholic Church 324 S. Ohio Street Sidney, Ohio.

According to state police records, Barhorst was at least the 20th person killed in snowmobile accidents so far this winter in Michigan.
