BETHEL, OH (FOX19) - An audit investigation leads to criminal charges against a former Bethel employee.

Laurie Taylor was charged with two counts of theft for allegedly defrauding the village of Bethel out of more that $13,000. Taylor was a former mayor court clerk for the village.

"Our auditors have identified and are investigating potential fraud within the village mayor's court," Auditor of the State Mary Taylor said. "We will conduct a thorough review of the facts and circumstances related to our findings and will release all information to the pubic when our investigation is complete."

State auditors found the shortages in the mayor's courts accounts when they arrived in Bethel in March to conduct the village's financial audit.
