CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A local man is charged with burglary and theft after police say he stole from his elderly neighbor.

According to court documents, Melvin Offill told his 89-year-old  neighbor that her caretaker hired him to do gutter work at her house last month. This was not true, and no work was done. Offill told her to write a check for $75 and to make the check out to his brother. The check was later cased at a Delhi Township bank.

A few days later, police say Offill forced open the neighbor's kitchen window and took her purse off the kitchen table without her consent. The woman was home at the time.

Offill faces one count of burglary and one count of theft. He also faces a charge of obstruction of official business after police say he ran from them when they tried to question him about the burglary.
