EAST END, OH (FOX19) - A pilot is in critical condition after a plane crash Tuesday night near Lunken Airport.

The plane went down just before 10 p.m. in the 4800 block of Beechmont Ave., in an area between the Little Miami River and Reeves Golf Course. The pilot was the only person on board.

Police say the pilot, Don Elliot, 76, of Loveland, was flying southeast when he struck a tree line in his 1962 Piper Cherokee PA28.

Witnesses say they heard the plane scrape the treetops, then disappear.

Elliot was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

The FAA and the NTSB are investigating the crash.
