BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) - A Gallatin County Sheriff's candidate has been arrested and indicted after trying to break a family member out of the hospital, and recording the whole thing on video tape.
Ronnie Smith was indicted on charges of custodial interference, criminal mischief and intimidating a person in a witness.
Smith said the family member was being held against her will at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence. The hospital said she was suicidal, but Smith said she was an epileptic and cut herself during a seizure.
While Smith and his family member were trying to leave the hospital, hospital security was called and pulled the woman from the elevator kicking and screaming. Smith caught the incident on a hidden video camera.
He will be in court on Oct. 6.
