Cincinnati, OH (FOX 19) New Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden still hasn't talked with quarterback Carson Palmer and says he probably won't until head coach Marvin Lewis and team owner Mike Brown reach out to Palmer first.
Gruden made his first appearance in Cincinnati on Monday and started meeting with assistant coaches on the Bengals offensive staff.
Gruden said his limited NFL experience is due to the fact he hasn't pursued a coaching job in the NFL before. Gruden said he has always been happy with his family and professional life living in Orlando and coaching in the A-F-L and U-F-L. He said the opportunity to coach in Cincinnati came as a "surprise."
The Bengals finished 4-12 last season and in addition to the trade request made public by quarterback Carson Palmer, the team also has several key free agents, including running back Cedric Benson.
