BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - The Board of Clermont County Commissioners has approved a three percent increase in county water rates, effective September 1, 2011.
On June 22, 2011, the BCC approved the Clermont County Water Resources Department recommendation for a rate hike by a vote of 2-1. The increase will impact an estimated 37,000 single family homes and 4,000 commercial, industrial and multi-family customers.
"The average residential customer uses 12,000 gallons of water, which will amount to an increase of around $1.07 per billing cycle," said Director of the Clermont Office of Management and Budget Sukie Scheetz. "The extra funding is needed to offset increasing costs to operate, maintain, and replace the water system."
It is the first water rate increase in 1.5 years. Customers needing additional information about the water rate increase can call 732-7970.
In addition, connection fees for new water and sewer customers are being increased effective October 2011. Single family water connection fees will increase by $420 to $1,970; single family sewer connection fees will increase by $720 to $3,340.
Scheetz said commercial connection fees will also increase, based on the size of the meter needed. For additional information about the connection fees, call 732-7986.
