Mother sentenced for perjury in son's case

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The mother of a 17-year-old charged with murder has been sentenced to five years in prison for lying to a grand jury about the whereabouts of a gun police suspect her son used in a killing.

Penny Fox of Covington previously pleaded guilty in Kenton Circuit Court to one count of perjury.

Fox's son, Stacey Spencer, is charged with killing 22-year-old Clayton Meyer of Covington on Jan. 5.

Police recorded Spencer telling his mother the weapon was under a dresser in their rental home. Spencer told police he threw the gun in the Ohio River.

Fox was called before a grand jury on April 21 but denied she talked to her son about the gun.

Spencer is set to stand trial on Jan. 24.
