SPRINGBORO, OH (FOX19) - A Springboro High School student was killed in a car crash Thursday morning while on his way to school.
Shaun Frechette, 17, was a junior football player.
The single car crash occurred on SR 741 near West Pekin Road.
Police say Frechette ran off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"Our students are our absolute first and only priority. The district's crisis plan has been activated, our counseling staff has been notified, and our school staff stands ready to support the family and friends of this young man. He was a football player, and we are keenly aware of the very special bonds on that team as well," said Todd Petrey, District Superintendent. "This is a sad time for our school district. We will do everything we can to bring comfort and support to our school community. Our kids come first. As all who knew Shaun come to terms with this, our priority is on their healing and understanding in the days, weeks and months to come."
Counselors are available to students and staff Thursday and for the next several days.
