Grant's Lick students celebrate 'the gift of giving'

Some local elementary students celebrated 'the gift of giving' on Wednesday.

Fifth grade students at Grant's Lick Elementary School in Alexandria spent the day crafting for a good cause.

Four different stations were set up around the classroom.

The 'gift of warmth' was given by making warm blankets to share.

The 'gift of thanks and hope' was given by the students by writing thank you letters troops.

Students gave 'the gift of joy' by decorating ornaments for local patients confined to their rooms.
The 'gift of caring' was given by putting together care packages for troops overseas.
"This is something we've been on board with for years.  This group of 5th graders just has a heart for giving", revealed Candice Kelsh, a 5th grade teacher at Grant's Lick Elementary.

The students also honored the victims in Connecticut by wearing the Sandy Hook Elementary school colors, green and white.
